The lecture presented results of Gaby Franger’s research, thanks to which the work and life of Else Oppler were rescued from obscurity. Although Else Oppler was an acclaimed designer and artist from the early 20th century until the establishment of the Weimar Republic, traces of her work were only occasionally mentioned in scholarly literature. Through archival research and a thorough analysis of 360 letters Else Oppler exchanged over 46 years with her best friend, Gabby Franger reconstructed her artistic career, which, like that of many women, was marked by numerous prejudices and obstacles.
